Tim Miller, CFI
Before becoming an Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Tim Miller spent 30 years teaching calculus, differential equations, number theory, algebra, and geometry at Niles West High School, and Loyola Academy. In addition to a long career in teaching, Tim was an aeronautical engineer with Lockheed in Silicon Valley designing controls systems for military satellites. Since 2015, Tim has been a member of the LEFC, and Much of his flying has been spent in 3096B; he earned his instrument rating, commercial certificate, and CFI all in the LEFC’s airplane.

Dave MacPhail, CFI, CFII, GI AI
Dave began flying in 1968, training in a 1948 Piper Colt. His aviation career includes marketing director of “Airmanship Training,” which is an intensive 2-day program for aircraft owners that fly high performance twin-engine aircraft like the Beechcraft Baron, Duke, King-Air, Cessna 310, Piper Navao and the like. His instructors were ATP rated and many were former airline pilots. Dave’s involvement with the program exposed him to the many aspects of flight and the importance of proficient training and safe flying techniques. In Dave’s career he was also the “Aero-Center Sales Manager” with responsibilities including aircraft sales in The Beechcraft Aero-Center Division for aircraft such as Skipper, Sport, Sundowner, Sierra, and Duchess. This position served as means to introduce people to the joy of flying and to begin a journey to become a pilot. Dave’s passion in aviation is to pass this wonderful experience on to the next generation incorporating superb airmanship skills that involve proficiency, safety and fun. Dave has logged over 3,500 hours of flight time and has given over 2,000 hours of dual flight instruction.

Mohammad 'Mo' Shawahin, CFI, CFII, DPE
Mo began his aviation training while working as a business leader for Fortune 10 company in 2017. In 2018, Mo dedicated a full time schedule to aviation training and completed his Private, Instrument rating, Commercial Single/Multi Engine and CFI/II by the summer of 2019, becoming a full time freelance CFI. In 2021 Mo transitioned to a regional airline, earning a CL65 type rating, progressed to a major cargo airline, operating the B767 and is now operating the A320 series for a legacy airline based in Chicago. In 2024, Mo became an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner. Mo is passionate about instructing and sharing his love of aviation with his students. When he’s not flying, Mo loves spending time with family, traveling the world, cycling and is an avid baseball fan who loves watching and coaching the game.

Sam Sobczak, CFI, CFII
Sam’s love of aviation began in 2005 when he was 4 years old and got to fly on his first airliner. Ever since that flight it has been his dream to be a pilot, in 2019 that dream became a reality. Sam began flight training in N3096B with CFI Lou Wipotnik. After some time with Lou he switched to learn from CFI Bob Schmelzer. Sam completed his Private, Instrument, and Commercial training with Bob in 96B and began his CFI training in it as well. He then traveled to Colorado where he completed his CFI & CFII Certificates. Outside of flying Sam enjoys playing golf as well as smoking pork shoulders on the smoker.

Brandon Anderson, CFI, CFII, CSIP
Brandon has worked diligently to achieve his dream of becoming a FAA Certified Flight Instructor, after a successful IT career. He achieved the dream and is instructing on a full-time basis. Brandon has earned his CSIP (Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot), as well as his type rating in the Cirrus Vision Jet. We are updating our website and will include his bio and picture shortly.
